Derek provides a full furniture restoration service of both antique and contemporary furniture.
This includes cabinet work; veneering; inlay work; carving and turning; laying leather and baize; making replacement parts; dismantling and erecting furniture; French polishing and wax finishes; repairing locks and making keys; colour matching and organising caning, rushing & upholstery. Common problems are broken chair and table legs; loose and missing veneers; fading and discolouration; scratches and dents to polished surfaces; broken metalwork and woodworm damage.
Damage repair
Noble Restoration offers a full damage repair service and can provide insurance quotations relating to accidental damage incurred during a house move or by water and fire. Typical damage includes water marks; ring marks and stains; burns; scratches; crushed corners; dents; knocks; gouges; packaging impression marks and breakages.
Being fully mobile Derek can carry out many aspects of repair and restoration in clients’ premises. He additionally carries out after-care services such as furniture maintenance, cleaning and waxing.
Interior woodwork
Derek has recently completed a number of period property renovations. He has been involved in sourcing, restoring and replacing where necessary interior woodwork, applying polish and wax finishes and colour matching new wood to old.
This includes work on staircases and handrails, wooden panelling, doors and window frames, parquet flooring and fire surrounds. The renewal and renovation of door furniture, metal work, catches, locks, keys and escutcheons is also a service provided.
Objets d’art
Derek restores a wide variety of objects made up of the following materials: bronze; pewter; spelter; lead; copper; brass; marble; stone; terracotta; china; tortoiseshell; mother-of-pearl; ivory; bone and metal work.
He also replaces decorative mouldings to mirror frames and gilding. Work can also be carried out on antique and contemporary objects including ivory figurines, ceramics, busts, bronze and spelter figures, mirrors, glass, chandeliers, sporrans and objects of vertu.
